Health and Safety

Awards include the CAODC Safety Performance Award, CAODC Award of Excellence for Safety Achievement and the CAODC Presidents Shield Class C.

EXCALIBUR DRILLING LTD. CORPORATE SAFETY POLICY

Excalibur Drilling is committed to protecting all it resources, employees and physical assets, from accidental loss. Our primary concern is to develop and maintain a safe work environment for all personnel on our work sites. Providing a safe environment can be accomplished only through personnel and management developing a 'safety first' work philosophy. In this way we ensure compliance with OH&S, EUB and other government legislation.

Excalibur also maintains safety excellence by conducting regular HEALTH & SAFETY audits.
Our commitment to HEALTH & SAFETY is evident as soon as you walk through the door. We proudly display our Certificate of Recognition, Company Safety Policy and the Petroleum Industry Guiding Principles in our office lobby and at each of our drilling rigs. This reminds all employees, contractors and visitors that safety is everyone’s responsibility and an integral part of working for Excalibur.

ALCOHOL AND DRUG POLICY

Our alcohol and drug policy is aimed at establishing a safe and productive work environment. The policies are incorporated into the conditions of employment. As a condition of employment new employees are drug tested and existing employees are randomly tested. Consumption or possession of alcohol or illegal drugs is prohibited on all job sites.

MODIFIED WORK PROGRAM

Should accidents happen, Excalibur Drilling Ltd. has implemented a modified work program. Modified work requires the consent of both the worker’s physician and the WCB case manager. We tailor our modified work to suit the extent of injury, all the while allowing the employee to continue to be a contributing member of our work force. By continuing to work the employee maintains skills and physical conditioning needed for the pre-injury position, thereby reducing the risk of further injury upon returning to regular duties.

PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT

All rig hands are required to have and use personal protective equipment. This includes CSA approved safety hats, safety-toed footwear, hearing and eye protection and proper fire resistant clothing. All safety equipment on rigs is to be inspected regularly; any defective equipment replaced immediately.

SAFETY MEETINGS

Rig Managers and Drillers hold safety meetings on a regular basis, topics include information from the operator, company policies, recent accidents (causes and corrections), proper use of safety equipment, rig inspection findings and necessary procedures to complete jobs in a safe and efficient manner. Each service company coming on to the job site conducts its own safety meeting, with crews from the drilling rig, making everyone aware of procedures and expectations for completion of their particular service. Documentation of all meetings is kept at each rig and a copy is sent to the Operations office.

RIG INSPECTIONS

Rig Managers conduct daily visual inspection of rigs and complete a detailed inspection every week. Monthly inspections of the Rig and BOP equipment are also conducted according to CAODC guidelines and ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and operated. Inspection reports are kept at the rig and a copy is sent to the Operations office. Rig Managers, Field Superintendent, Operations Manager and Safety Supervisor talk on a daily basis and discuss concerns or remedial measures and follow-up. Participation by all Management, Supervisors and Employees is necessary in the prevention of accidents. We make safety a high priority in our operations.

TRAINING

All new workers receive “Basic Safety Awareness Training” and must obtain First Aid, H2S and WHMIS to name a few. We encourage all employees to demonstrate their commitment by becoming fully involved in our HEALTH & SAFETY Program. That means participating in rig and safety equipment inspections, identifying and controlling workplace hazards, getting involved in safety meetings and Emergency Response Drills, taking care of your safety gear, and protecting the HEALTH & SAFETY of your coworkers.

Safety Excellence …that’s what it means to work for Excalibur.
